October 14: Transfer To Viking Eldir

Day 4:  On Board, At Last

It was a long day, but surprisingly (for me at least) the bus ride didn't seem as long as it really took.  Bags were required to be out by 6:00am because everyone had arrived in Bucharest yesterday.  Everyone we'd been traveling with since our arrival was on the pre-extension.  Those on the cruise ONLY arrived yesterday and because of the low water levels of the Danube were greeted with a five hour bus adventure to get on board, rather than the boat being docked in Bucharest as per usual.  We had two stops so we basically travelled 90 minutes, stopped for about 20 min....90 min, stopped for 20 min and then 90 min and arrived.  Our bags were already in our stateroom and lunch was being served upon our arrival out on the open-air Aquavit Terrace.  Was a gorgeous afternoon and we were SO glad we opted NOT to do the five plus hour excursion around Bucharest as those three bus loads of guests arrived between 7pm and 8pm.  By contrast we were here around 2pm and got to enjoy most of the day on board.  There was a port talk meeting schedule for 8:45pm which everyone was anxious to attend because our email we received said that pretty much everything that was originally scheduled was off and we'd be informed on board what was happening day-to-day.  But with the later than expected arrivals they cancelled the meeting and made an announcement that if you intended to go on the "INCLUDED" excursion tomorrow - a TWELVE hour day, including a 3 hour bus ride there AND back, to please sign up in the lobby.  Well everyone was immediately confused.  Finally it was clarified that TOMORROW we'll get the entire plan, but for tomorrow if you don't want the LONG day - who would after all the bus travel so far? - there is a 2 1/2 hour local included incursion.  I inquired at the desk and apparently all of our paid excursions are off and we'll be getting refunds.  BUT...we're on board, I got my mudslide - actually got two of them! - and we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon and evening on board!
